What is Voluntary Surrender?
Any member of the public can own Certificates and offset emissions through the surrender of those Certificates.
The surrender of one energy efficiency certificate is equivalent to the abatement of one tonne of carbon dioxide.
- to offset their greenhouse gas emissions;
- to encourage the generation of electricity from renewable sources.
Certificates accepted by the regulatory authorities for voluntary surrender are permanently removed from the market and cannot be transferred to another party or be used to discharge a mandatory liability under the relevant Act.
What do I have to do to Voluntarily Surrender a Certificate?
