Energy Saving Light Globes and Low Flow Shower Heads in Victoria
What is the offer?
We install energy-efficient products in your home, FREE OF CHARGE.
In Victoria we remove your existing incandescent light globes and replace them with energy saving Compact Florescent light globes. We replace your old shower head with an energy efficient low flow shower head. Every light globe we change, saves you up to $15 per year on your energy bill*, plus 83kgs of greenhouse gas pollution.
* Savings are based on average household usage.
Why is it free of charge?
Wellbeinggreen is a private company accredited under the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme. The products fitted into your home reduce your energy usage, thereby reducing greenhouse gas pollution. Under the VEET Scheme, we document that reduction and create carbon credits. When you assign those carbon credits to Wellbeinggreen, we can sell them. This covers the cost of the products and installation which is why we can afford to give you the products free of charge.
What is the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) Scheme?
The VEET Scheme is a Victorian state government scheme that will help families reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut their power bills. Under the Scheme, all electricity producers must reduce their emissions by a certain amount, or buy certificates (carbon credits), or pay a fine. Organizations can be accredited under this scheme to create carbon credits by doing things to reduce electricity production, thereby reducing emissions. These carbon credits can be sold to electricity producers to meet their emission reduction targets.
Can all of my lights be changed and showerheads fitted with low flow shower heads?
We can replace most standard lights. We cannot replace energy efficient globes, halogen down lights, sensor lights, globes that operate on a dimmer switch, and some decorative or small lights.
We can install low flow shower heads provided the water pressure is sufficient.
Do I have a choice of products to install?
Yes, you can choose the following:
- Type of light fitting: (bayonet or screw fitting -determined by the light fitting).
- Light brightness: We supply 15 watt CFLs, which are about equal in brightness to 75 watt incandescent globes.
- Light colour / temperature: We can supply either "warm" (yellower) or "daylight" (bluer) globes.
How long is the life of the product?
The light globes we supply are rated by the manufacturer and tested for a lifetime of 15,000 hours. Most of the globes will last 15,000 hours or more, but some will burn out sooner. In rare cases, a defective globe may last only a few hours, or not work at all.
Why do I need to sign a form?
We provide you with products free of charge in exchange for you assigning us your greenhouse gas pollution savings (carbon credits). When you sign the form, you confirm the details on the form are true and correct and you give us the carbon credits. We sell the credits to pay for the products and installation costs.
What happens if I change my mind?
You may stop an installation that is in progress at any time. If some of the products have been installed and you would like to keep them, our installer will ask you to confirm the number of products installed and to finalize our paperwork. If you are not willing to confirm the number of products, our installer will remove the products.
After the products are installed you have ten days in which you can change your mind. If you do so, we cannot return and reinstall the removed products as they will have been destroyed under Scheme arrangements. You can contact our Customer Service team to arrange to return the products we provided, and we will reimburse you for the products that were removed.
Can my friends and family have these products installed?
Households in Victoria are eligible for this offer. We are only in a few regions in any one time. Please check to see if we are in the area by calling us on 1300 121 555.
Why can't I install the products myself?
Wellbeinggreen is obligated to ensure the products are installed in order to claim credit.
Why do you want to take away my old globes?
We are obliged under the Scheme regulations to remove and decommission all products that we replace.
Is the mercury in compact fluorescent lights dangerous?
Like all fluorescent lights, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing. In CFLs it is about 5 milligrams (roughly equivalent to the tip of a ball-point pen). CFLs are safe to use in your home. No mercury is released when the bulbs are in use and they pose no danger to you or your family when used properly.
Research indicates there is no immediate health risk to you or your family should a CFL bulb break if it is cleaned up properly. Minimize any risk by following these clean-up and disposal guidelines:- Sweep up all the glass fragments and fine particles-don't vacuum.
- Place broken pieces in a sealed plastic bag and wipe the area with a damp paper towel to pick up any stray shards of glass or fine particles. Place the used towel in the plastic bag as well.
- If weather permits, open windows to allow the room to ventilate.
